2007 POWER Alum Called Up to Big Leagues

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Ryan Wheeler, a member of the 2007 Palm Springs POWER, was called up to the Arizona Diamondbacks and made his major league debut versus the Houston Astros on Friday.

The Torrance, Calif. native went 1-for-4 on the night, getting his first career hit in seventh inning as he singled to center field off of reliever Rhiner Cruz.

Wheeler was tearing up the Pacific Coast League (AAA) with the Reno Aces prior to his call up. He was leading the Minors with 90 RBIs while hitting .351 with 15 homers in 93 games.

The 24-year-old was drafted out of Loyola Marymount in the fifth round of the 2009 draft.
